Oracle offers a stand-alone version of its Oracle Warehouse Management application (WMS)
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 10:17AM Oracle Corporation announced a new, stand-alone version of its Oracle Warehouse Management application (WMS), decoupling the tool from the E-Business Suite (EBS) ERP platform. The company also plans to bundle the Oracle WMS application with Oracle's Transportation Management system (OTM, formerly G-Log) offering them together as a best-of-breed logistics management suite. This is a much needed improvement since with prior versions of Oracle's WMS, you needed to have an Oracle ERP system and the new approach offers Oracle the ability to target the large install base of companies that run SAP.
The stand-alone version of Oracle Warehouse Management also allows the critical shipment execution software to be upgraded or enhanced without requiring a full ERP upgrade as well as the ability to ship product when the ERP system is down for maintenance. Although this is a good strategic move for Oracle, it is not likely that they will surpass the leaders in the space, Manhattan Associates and RedPrairie.
